I have pretty good memories of the previous tour of Team India to Australia in 2003. Everyone expected a whitewash but the team with loads of talent oozing to deliver got its act together and we witnessed one of the most matched high level cricket which was played with loads of passion and true sportsmanship. In the first Test the captain led from the front. Ganguly scored a classy century and in the first innings we bettered the Aussie score. The first test was drawn the Indians started to feel it easy. Ganguly also proved a point that he and his team are no pushovers. Playing in Australia is no mean task as bigger teams that went there with loads of promise came back with nothing but big defeats and shame. The good thing about that team was that each one knew its task. The then openers Sehwag and Chopra was a good combo of aggressive batsman and solid defender. Dravid came one down and solidified the innings. Sachin initially was out of sorts but came in his own in the last test where India crossed 700. Ganguly provided his presence all around and for Laxman Australia is his bunny. For bowlers Pathan was a new find and Agarkar too was living upto his promise that on bouncy tracks he can be lethal. All in all a well fought serious which we should have won had Parthiv Patel not goofed up. I loved the statement that Dravid said. That all were happy that we drew the series but while leaving Sydney in bus, all thought that it was a serious which they could have won.
This time round we have a team which has a lot aged cricketers but the competition for each place is fierce. For me no one except Ganguly and Jaffer can say that they are pretty secured. Positions and tasks of most of the guys might be changed. The Aussies too are charged up to take revenge of the 20-20 loss both in India and in WC. lets c. looks like the ingredients are all there for a spicy series. I hope both teams live up to the hype and I and you are the real gainers of an exciting cricket series.
Test 1:
Stage was set for a great test match…. Hayden and Jaques started with a 150 run stand but the the Indians fought their way after lunch and restricted aussies below 350…. couldn’t have expected better…. But then the so called ‘fragility’ of Indian lineup came back…. indians bowled out under 200 but there we saw the glimpses of great class and exuberance present inside the little master-blaster Sachin…. Ganguly too was at his best before he threw it away…. Aussies then amassed a big total in Third innings posting target of 499 and the Indian team trembled once again…. The match finished on fourth day itself…. Aussies 1-nil up
Test 2:
First Day First Session: Both Aussie openers back in the pavilion…. This was a big thing as these two had 150 run stand in the first innings in the first test….. Half an hour into the second session and aussies are 131/6….. yeaahhhhhhhhhh… this is the chance to get the series back on track and the lifeline to get 1-1 on the series…. Awesome
but then the rub of green went against us…. Symonds clearly nicking one outside the off… absolutely no doubt that he was out was given notout by Steve Bucknor…. not even 1 in 100 chances are there that such a thing is given notout… and the spiritless Symonds took stayed there…. that was the beginning of the shame and lack of sportsmanspirit creeping in…. Symonds given notout twice when stumped when it clearly appeared that he’s out…. once by a third umpire…. could u believe it…. a third umpire giving a wrong decision…. the guy amassed an unbeaten 167….. and Aussies piled up 463…. in reply Laxman and Sachin showed their class in their centuries….. Ganguly was a bit unlucky to miss out on a century when he threw it away
Indians taking a lead of 63 runs…. The test was heading for a tame draw but then again the umpires turning villians and like the
